Australia’s biggest hackathon will run across Australia over the weekend of September 7-9 2018.
GovHack is about getting our best and brightest working with government open data to innovate and create. It is about encouraging and celebrating our technical and creative capacity, connecting citizens with government for great outcomes, and building upon the social and economic value of open data.
Over 46 hours teams from across Australia will create a proof of concept and a video that tell the story of how open data could be reused. The concepts will include innovative community apps, websites or creative visualisations that demonstrate the potential of open data and showcase the skills of talented participants.
The competition brings together people of all ages and skills with an interest in unlocking the potential of data, sharpening their entrepreneurial skills and competing in a fun incubator event.
This year sponsors already include Digital Transformation Agency, Infosys, IP Australia, Department of Defence, Science and Technology, Australian Financial Security Authority, Bureau of Meteorology and others. The latest list is on https://www.govhack.org/
The competition will be held in all capital cities and locations including Albany, Alice Springs, Ballarat, Campbelltown, Casey, Gladstone, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Launceston, Logan, Mandurah, Mount Gambier, Parramatta, Rockhampton, Toowoomba and Townsville. There’s also “kitchen table” remote participation option for people in remote areas. See https://2018.hackerspace.govhack.org/competition_events for more details.
